Friday, February 1 – National Red Wear Day®
February is American Heart Month and Friday, February 1 kicks off the month long observance with National Wear Red Day®. Women and men are encouraged to wear red to raise women’s awareness of the risk of heart disease and empower women to take charge of their heart health.
Heart disease is the number one killer of women claiming the lives of nearly 500,000 women in the United States each year. By making healthy choices and getting the right care, heart disease can be largely preventable. Good health decisions you can make to help fight against heart disease include:
• Not Smoking and avoiding second hand smoke
• Managing your blood sugar
• Getting your blood pressure under control
• Lowering your cholesterol
• Knowing your family history
• Staying active
• Losing weight
• Eating healthy
Together, we can urge women to protect their hearts and take action to reduce their personal risk.
